“The Birth of Moovers n Shakers Music”

It’s a funny thing about dreams – there are dreams that you ponder over, lovingly, longingly, thoughtfully crafting with your chin resting on your hand as you gaze off into the distant future.

And then there are other dreams that wake you up in the dead of night like a cold slap against your sweaty, flushed face. Dreams that make no qualms about their message for you.

That was how Moovers n Shakers Music was born. It was 2am, March 2017 and I had just found out that due to some unfortunate red-tape and bureaucratic BS, I was unable to continue working as a Kindergarten Teacher (long story for another blog!) For context, we  had recently moved to Tasmania with our young children, having finally taken a leap of faith and selling up in Victoria. We arrived in our caravan with no jobs, no house, just the four of us and a bucketload of optimism that we would find our dream hobby farm and live happily ever after (remember that thoughtfully crafted dream I mentioned earlier? Well, I'm grateful to say that one did come true in more ways than we could have imagined!)

But, I digress… Back to March 2017 - I was at a crisis point, grieving as I saw my teaching career slip out of my hands, feeling deflated that all my studies and work experience had amounted to zero, worried sick about how I was going to contribute financially to our family. So yeah, I wasn’t sleeping the best and this one particularly restless night, I shot up in bed with the image of a pig and cow dancing around, chanting “moovers n shakers, moovers n shakers”... I tiptoed out to the kitchen of our rental, and drew the images of what had come to me in my dream. I scribbled down all the ideas as they came rushing out and at 4am I crawled back into bed, exhausted but with a feeling of conviction that I had just planted some very important seeds that would support me on a new journey, a new season of life.

Fast forward to May 2023 and I’m proud to say my little ‘side-hustle’ has grown quietly in the background, but my dreams of late have been urging me to prepare for a new season. One where I hop down from the fence and step boldly into the spotlight. Not because I want fame and fortune. But because I know deep inside my heart of hearts that my mission in this lifetime is to serve others, to share the magic of Music and Mindset to as many people as possible. I’m at a point in my life where I figure, if I know something that is going to help others and improve their wellbeing, who am I NOT to share it around?

The Cambridge dictionary defines a Mover and Shaker as “someone with a lot of power and influence; someone who is willing to make big changes to get things done”.

This is me. Kristy Russell. Passionate educator. Committed Musical Mindset Mentor. Founder of Moovers n Shakers Music. I’m ready and willing. And I’d love for you to join me on the journey!

Love Music, Love Learning, Love Life.
